Sunrise Riding Academy
Sunrise
is offering a daily intensive three hour summer riding program
for boys and girls ages eight through fourteen at our campsite
in Scituate. The remainder of the camp day follows the same
selective programming as the Day Camp. At Sunrise, we recognize
that the most important factor in the students' success is
an individual level of confidence. We will teach that horseback
riding begins before the student sits in the saddle. Our students
will learn techniques of proper care and maintenance of a
horse. |

Registration
PAYMENT FOR RIDING ACADEMY MUST BE RECEIVED
IN FULL WITH THE APPLICATION. Applications will not be processed
unless full payment is received. Also, please note that
the application does not insure acceptance into the Riding
Academy. Parents must sign a general release for their children
to participate in this program. |
Beginner
Equitation
This level is limited to ring work until the
novice gains a sound background in riding. Proper grooming,
saddling of a horse, and elementary use of aids will be
taught; along with basic balance seat position, proper mounting
and dismounting techniques. Students will also assist in
the care and handling of the horse.
Intermediate Equitation
The intermediate program consists of structured
ring work where the student will become involved with more
precise techniques. This will require an advanced level
of control. Advanced exercises for improving riding muscles
will stress the importance of gentle hands, relaxed posture
and collected riding. Elementary jumping is taught when
our instructors feel the student is prepared. Instructors
will familiarize the student with horse show procedures
that will help when participating in the Sunrise Horse Show. |
|
Advanced Equitation
Students are admitted into this level after a review
of their riding ability and knowledge by our staff. Advanced Equitation
will center around advancing harmonious horsemanship. The performance
of proper execution of schooling exercise and gaits are key. Reining
pattern work and school figures are stressed. Contest work such
as Gymkhana, Drill Team and Dressage events are conducted.
|
Horse Show
Sunrise will have a final horse show with
ribbons and awards presented to all students. In order to
participate, riders are required to be enrolled in the Riding
Academy during the week of the horse show and at least one
other week. |
Staff
Our academy's director and staff are thoroughly
schooled in the instruction and training techniques and have many
years of riding and teaching experience. Not only are they excellent
riders, but they know the theory of riding and how to teach the
student at their level.
Dress Requirements
We request that each student come equipped with
protective headgear (ASTM-SEI helmet) and hard sole and heeled
shoes. Long pants that are too tight or too loose should not be
worn. (One should be able to do deep knee bends.)
Transportation
Transportation arrangements are the same for the
Day camp. (See Transportation Section
for the complete transportation schedule.)
